I am a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at Stanford University. I am on the 2026–27 academic job market.
My research sits at the intersection of state-business relations, industrial policy, and authoritarian politics, with a regional focus on China in both contemporary and historical contexts. My current work centers on two questions: 1) what are the political and economic consequences of state-led development, and 2) how do private firms survive, navigate, and gain leverage in weak institutional environments.
Methodologically, I combine in-depth fieldwork, including participant observation and interviews, with causal inference, formal modeling, machine learning, and large language models applied to text data.
I have received fellowships and grants from the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, the Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions, and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.
Prior to entering the Ph.D. program, I earned an M.A. in International Policy Studies from Stanford University and an LL.B. in International Political Economy from Renmin University of China.
